A robber brandished a needle during a Wellington dairy robbery before taking off with cash and cigarettes, say police.

A man entered the Choc Fizz on Riddiford St, Newtown about 7pm yesterday, allegedly waving a needle at a shop attendant and demanding cash.

A police spokeswoman said a 32-year-old man was arrested shortly after the robbery and would be charged.

She said no one was injured and police were supporting the victim.
