Invercargill Police are seeking information after a car fire caused a large bush fire yesterday.

The blue Toyota Altezza was set alight in a carpark at the end of Christie's Road, Sandypoint.

Police said the fire was set at about 3.30am yesterday, and resulted in a large fire in the surrounding bush.

Several fire crews and a helicopter battled the blaze for more than 12 hours.

Police said the vehicle was stolen from the Rosedale/Hargest area between the hours of 9.30pm on Sunday and 3.30am yesterday.

Those with information about the fire are asked to contact Detective Constable Jeremy Dix of Invercargill Police.
