A German tramper has been rescued from the Te Araroa Trail in the Mt Richmond Ranges after becoming unwell.
The man has been tramping south along the trial towards the Red Hill area when he became unwell yesterday afternoon.
Staff from the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter said the man sought shelter overnight at Tarn Hut before trying to continue on this morning.
He soon became unwell again and returned to Tarn Hut before activating his emergency locator beacon.
The Wellington Rescue Coordination Centre dispatched the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter to search for the beacon signal. They found him at the hut where he was assessed and treated by the on-board Intensive Care Paramedic before being flown back to Nelson.
