An Auckland woman has been charged with abandoning two children, one of them aged 14 months old at the time.

The woman is accused of "unlawfully abandoning a child under the age of 6 years old" on September 22, 2007, and again on August 22 this year.

The first child was 14 months old and the second was 4 years old.

The 34-year-old woman is also charged with knowingly using forged documents, namely Auckland District Health Board medical documents and a birthing document, to obtain a service.

She also faces a charge of stealing a Chinese passport.

She appeared in the Wellington District Court on Monday, where Judge Peter Hobbs remanded her in custody back to Auckland, Fairfax reported.

She did not plead to the charge and did not ask for bail, they said.

Her charging documents list her as having no fixed abode.

Her next appearance will be in Auckland on October 31.
