Teen arrested for carrying firearm

A 17-year-old has been arrested after he was spotted with an air rifle near a Chartwell property in Hamilton.

Hamilton senior sergeant Robbie Hermann said a member of the public contacted police about 4pm after they saw a male with a rifle in Magee Place.

"The person was concerned they had seen a person looking through a scope of a firearm, contacted us so we went and checked it out. Found it and found the male."

Hermann said the teenager did not appear to be a threatening anyone. What he was doing with the air rifle was still to be determined.
