A man is facing a serious assault charge after a woman was injured on a Nelson street last week.

Nelson Police have arrested a 24-year-old man and charged him with wounding with reckless disregard.

Police say a woman turned up at Nelson Hospital with serious injuries and nearby Jenner Rd was closed as police investigated the link between an incident on the street and the injured woman.

A man was arrested yesterday afternoon.

He was due to appear in the Nelson District Court next Monday.

Police said they are not looking for anyone else.
