A 10-year-old girl was grabbed this morning while walking to school in Te Aroha.

Police are investigating the incident, in which the Te Aroha Primary School pupil was walking over a walk bridge near the Waikato town's wetlands.

In a post to the Te Aroha College Alumni Facebook page, senior management said they were emailing parents and staff about the incident.

Police had notified the school this morning, the announcement said.

"We have been advised by the police that this morning someone tried to grab a primary school student as they were walking over the walk bridge near the wetlands."
