The two men involved in a 'horror' crash in Waihi at the weekend had not been wearing helmets.
Waikato police have since expressed deep concern at the crash, which happened about 8pm on Saturday of Kenny St and Baber St - a once popular shortcut for motorists bypassing the town centre.
The motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were now in a serious condition after being airlifted to Waikato Hospital following.
Waikato Road policing manager Inspector Freda Grace said early indications were that neither man was wearing a helmet and she was deeply concerned at the number of fatal motorcycle crashes this year.
The Waihi crash happened only a few hours after a motorcyclist in his 70's was killed after colliding with a car on State Highway 25 just north of Thames.
