A man who sold cannabis out of a shooting gallery just metres from the Rotorua police station has been jailed.
Dennis Chan, 55, was sentenced in the Rotorua District Court yesterday to 15 months' jail after he was previously found guilty of four counts of selling cannabis to undercover police officers in September 2012.
During his December trial he was found not guilty of a further two charges of selling cannabis and one of possession of cannabis for supply. Chan sold the drug from the former Fun Gun Shooting Gallery on Fenton St, where he worked. As a result of the charges the gallery - owned by Chan's brother - had to close, Judge McGuire said.
The judge said he accepted selling cannabis was "an adjunct" to Chan's personal use of the drug.
"Unlike those who run 'hard-out tinny houses' you had the drug mostly for your own purposes but as the evidence says, you were prepared to sell to others."
