An elderly woman has died after a car accident on Napier Rd in Havelock North this afternoon.

Two vehicles collided about 3.20pm leaving one driver injured and one deceased.

Police said it was too early to comment on details of the drivers but said there were no other passengers in either of the vehicles.

A police statement said the other occupant had been removed from their vehicle and transported to Hawkes Bay Regional Hospital at Hastings, with non-life threatening injuries.

The police Serious Crash Unit is on the scene. Napier Road is blocked and motorists are advised to access Havelock North via State Highway 2.
