Rotorua man admits murdering 64-year-old

A Rotorua man has pleaded guilty to murdering Polish man Roman Skorek.

Rawiri James Samuel, 21, appeared in the Rotorua District Court this afternoon and pleaded guilty to murdering the 64-year-old on January 23.

Mr Skorek was found dead in Kuirau Park.

Samuel is one of four males accused of murdering Mr Skorek.

The court was told that Mr Skorek was physically assaulted before being stabbed with a knife. His death was as the result of a stab wound to the chest.

Judge Chris McGuire has ordered a pre-sentence report and remanded Samuel in custody for sentencing in the High Court at Rotorua on May 15.
