Father charged with wounding baby

A charge of wounding has been laid against the father of a nine-month-old girl who was seriously injured during a fight between her parents yesterday.

The 29-year-old Hastings man has been charged with wounding with reckless disregard causing grievous bodily harm and two counts of breaching a protection order, Detective Sergeant Mark Moorhouse said.

He will appear in Hastings District Court this afternoon.

Police said they would oppose bail.

Mr Moorhouse said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

The baby remained in a serious but stable condition in Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital this morning.
