Teenager fatally shot on farm

A 17-year-old was fatally shot at a farm in South Wairarapa this morning, police have confirmed.

Inspector Steve Darroch of central police communications said the young man died as a result of a chest injury when he was shot by a .22 rifle.

Initial reports have indicated the shooting was accidental but police were investigating.

The scene of the incident had been cordoned off and a forensic team from Wellington would be attending the scene this afternoon, Mr Darroch said.

The name of the teenager would be released when next of kin have been advised, he said.
