One Direction star Liam Payne's selfie fail in Oz goes viral

They're one of the world's biggest boy bands, who've recorded four albums in four years.

So it would come as no surprise if One Direction's members, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, are feeling a little fatigued - and that certainly appeared to be the case for the latter at Wednesday night's ARIA Awards.

A hilarious Vine clip taken of the Sydney event shows the 21-year-old looking less than enthusiastic as he morosely stops for selfies with hordes of fans eager to get a moment with the pop star.

Looking like he's losing the will to live, Liam methodically makes his way down the barrier, clearly going into autopilot.

With comical timing the Wolverhampton-born songwriter flicks between two faces - brief smile and unhappy resting face - as he grabs camera after camera off the hungry fans pushing against the barriers.

The clip, which has since gone viral, prompted fans to give their opinions on his selfie fail.

One fan commented: "This Vine of Liam Payne wishing he was dead while taking selfies with fans is my favourite thing in the world."

While another added: "Hahahaha this cracks us up! #LiamPayne is sooo over taking selfies!"

However it seems like the songwriter has yet to see the funny side, taking to Twitter to defend himself on Thursday night.

"Lots of people saying I was 'faking' smiles with fans yesterday... I usually find when ur [sic] taking a photo u don't smile until somebody's about to take the photo

"Sorry to disappoint but I don't walk around like this all day," he wrote including an emoticon of a beaming face. "That would hurt!"

A legion of female fans had turned out to greet the famous five as they walked the red carpet ahead of the awards ceremony at The Star in the harbour city.

The Brit pop band picked up the gong for Best International Artist at the star studded event and despite Liam's less than enthused time red carpet greeting, the band made sure to thoroughly thank their fans.

"Thank you so much, this is an absolute honour, it's incredible to be here in Australia," Louis said as he gripped the ARIA.

"This award is for our fans, coming from the UK it's great having this support in Australia, we can't wait to be back on tour and see you guys in February," Zayn concluded for the boys.
