On her last leg through the Tararua, headed for a Wellington finish, she admitted it had been tough pedalling 100km a day.
"I'm crazy. I don't know how I've got through this and I can't believe I'm only days away from finishing," she said when she rode into Dannevirke and the welcoming home of Jim and Jenny Morton.
"Our kids had seen Victoria's story on Facebook and rang and asked if we'd take her in," Jenny explained.
"Well, we're the Mortons. Our house is always open, so of course we did."
Husband Jim Morton said Victoria had achieved something "amazing".
"At 23 I wasn't thinking of cycling around New Zealand. Far from it," he said.
"Victoria is so focused, so driven and thinking and achieving things way beyond her age."
Victoria is a fulltime athlete and will be looking for sponsorship beyond her latest fundraising effort.
"Riding solo is quite challenging," she said.
"I wasn't planning it this way, but it's the way it's ended up.
"I reckon it's better to get on the road and do it."
And while meeting some wonderful people such as the Mortons, there had been some close calls on the road.
"I fell when I was riding into Raglan and eight cars almost ran me over," Victoria said.
"I'm carrying 50kg in my pannier bags, so it's a challenge. But I'm doing this in memory of people who have passed away."
At 14, Victoria knew she wanted to make a difference in people's lives.
"Yes, I talk a lot, but my focus really is on others," she said.
Victoria's passion is sport and she's completed five ironman events and one complete ironman event, cycled around Lake Taupo and aims to work part-time to pay her bills, devoting the rest of her time to training.
"I did my first ironman on a borrowed bike.
"I'm happy to sacrifice extra spending money because I'm not about money, except at the moment as I try to raise money for my five cancer charities.
"This time it's been tough."
However, Victoria is hoping more money will roll in now she's finished her marathon riding effort, as it did when she ran the length of New Zealand in 2012.
The five charities she's fundraising for are the Child Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer Foundation, the Cancer Society of New Zealand, Starship Children's Hospital and the Dream Chaser Foundation.
