"It is a bit of a rarity - to get one trophy is fantastic but to get two is just amazing."
Mr Crichton said what made it even more special was that chardonnay and syrah were both Vidal's hallmark varietals.
"These results reinforce Hawke's Bay as a producer of top-drawer chardonnay and syrah of an international standard and the trophies reflect our great soils, climate and how the team focuses on quality from vineyard to bottle."
It was now a case of "getting them out there to the world".
With Asia, and particularly China, having emerged as a major new importer of quality wines, the trophies took on added value, the winery's Beijing-based Asia market manager Charlotte Read said.
"Wins in wine competitions provide a great springboard from which to communicate with media, trade and consumers, particularly when establishing brand awareness in Asia," she said.
"China in particular is a rapidly growing market in which wineries around the world are racing to compete in - being awarded these trophies will definitely help Vidal stand out amongst the crowd."
Mr Crichton said while there was always a little more leeway with a variety like chardonnay, the 2012 season had been a challenging one, so earning a trophy with their effort that year was especially pleasing.
"In tough vintages it is a lot of work but you can still make very good wines."
The 2013 and 2014 vintages were what he called "exceptional" and would really hit the international market big time.
"A lot of the '13s are yet to come out so that is going to be very exciting - and the 2014 was also very strong so there are going to be some great Hawke's Bay wines around the world for the years to come."
