Napier home support worker Hedda Atkins says an agreement to resolve travel time pay issues is "terrific".
"It just makes you feel valued, because our wages are just so damn low," she said. "You can spend between 10 to 30 minutes travelling between clients and we were paid nothing."
The workers are expected to use their own vehicles but poorly compensated by district health board-contracted employers.
"We get a little bit towards petrol but it is nothing near enough to cover costs. It costs about $120 a fortnight in petrol and we would get about $56."
A mileage rate of 50 cents/km would now be paid. Inland Revenue's recommended rate, for the cost of running a motor vehicle, is 77 cents/km.
