A new, national standard motorcycle track was officially opened in Fernhill, Hastings yesterday.

Hawke's Bay Motorcycle Club president Greg Morice said the 2.3 km track, situated on Mere Rd, had been under construction for three years.

"It's a national quality track, so it will raise the standard of our riders, particularly our young riders."

The track was opened by Napier MP Chris Tremain and blessed by a minister from Omahu Marae. Mr Morice said wet weather would not hamper use of the new track, and he was proven right by a mud-covered Ollie Ayre from Havelock North.
