Senior citizens have replaced the child mascots used by a top Swedish football club to wild applause from their fans.
AIK decided that their oldest fans should accompany the team onto the field before their match against Gefle IF as part of a bid to reconnect with "a lost generation of AIK supporters".
The move also involved discounted tickets and shuttle buses to and from retirement homes, metro.co.uk reported. Leading the senior procession was 86-year-old Lennart Johansson, the European football association's longest serving president renowned for having instigated the hugely successful Champions League when he was in charge.
AIK won the match 1 - 0 with their oldest fans, many wearing the black and yellow club scarves, looking on. The occasion was described as "moving".
