A student appeared in Auckland District Court today charged with the murder of an Auckland woman.
The 23-year-old man, granted interim name suppression, was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
The Chinese man appeared briefly in the dock wearing a blue prison issue boiler suit and with his left arm in a cast and in a sling, after suffering a severe knife wound to a hand.
The man, from the North Shore suburb of Hillcrest, was charged after Yi Ren, 30, was found stabbed in an Auckland inner city apartment on Tuesday .
Yi Ren, also known as Tina, was a Chinese national from Beijing.
Her next of kin have been told and some are flying to Auckland over the next few days.
A post-mortem examination on Ms Ren was completed this morning, a preliminary report showing she had suffered stab wounds.
The man will appear in Auckland District Court on Tuesday.
