Arrivals from Japan at Auckland Airport in July jumped 101.7 per cent on July 2009.
Japan routes accounted for 2.5 per cent of total passengers last month and Korean arrivals grew 13.6 per cent.
Corporate relations manager Richard Llewellyn attributed the Japanese increase to the amount of promotional activity there and an increase in chartered flights.
There was a total increase of 4.9 per cent in international passengers arriving or departing on July 2009.
In the past 12 months, the number of international passengers grew 1.5 per cent to 7.45 million and domestic traffic increased by 7.6 per cent to 6.06 million.
