Six people are in the running to become the next Mauao Maori representative on the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
In last year's election the seat was won by long-standing councillor Awanui Black who passed away in November.
In the running are Carlton Bidois, who stood against Mr Black in the last election, Antoine Coffin, Matire Duncan, Paora Paul Martin, Matemoana McDonald and Christopher Stokes.
The nomination period closed at noon yesterday.
Voting documents will be delivered to eligible voters in the electorate between March 20 and 25. Voting closes at noon on April 11.
