Bay of Plenty Polytechnic has unofficially broken a world record by dipping toast into boiled eggs.
Two hundred and seven participants stood 10 to a table and, in time to a count over loudspeaker, dipped their toast soldiers into their soft-boiled eggs and ate.
Student experience co-ordinator Kirsten Crossan said it would take up to eight weeks for Guinness World Records to go through the evidence the polytech provided and recognise the record.
The polytech had to provide photographic and video evidence and independent official witness statements. Witnesses included Deputy Mayor Kelvin Clout, three lawyers, two Justices of the Peace and local councillors.
Participants, who included students, staff and others involved with orientation week, had to be filmed entering and leaving the record area one at a time and filming had to be continuous.
Mrs Crossan said she was stoked with how it went.
"The students are motivated by food, which was good to get the numbers and it looked like they had a bit of fun going by the throwing of egg at the end."
Student Reremoana Douglas, 16, said he got involved because he wanted to be part of breaking a world record, which previously stood at 178.
"I enjoyed it, having lunch and throwing the eggs around afterwards. It's the first time I've ever been involved in trying to break a record, it's pretty cool to be in the book if we make it."
Administration staff members Tracey McGregor, 33, Victoria Wikepa, 35, Natascha Digglemann, 36, and Alec Rodger, 28, took part in the challenge as a group.
And the four would do it again - particularly if it again involved a free lunch.
