The Welcome Bay woman charged with attempting to hold up Arataki Superette with a 10-inch dagger at the end of March remains behind bars after she was refused bail.
Unemployed Cheyanne McCausland, 22, faced a charge of assault with intent to commit robbery with an offensive weapon in Tauranga District Court yesterday.
The charge stemmed from an allegation that about 3pm on March 31, McCausland pulled a 10-inch knife on 59-year-old shop assistant Suzanne Rose Savage but fled when the panic alarm was activated.
Her lawyer, Tony Rickard-Simms, sought bail for his client to enable her to continue to work so she could maintain her rented Kairua Rd home where she and her unemployed brother lived.
However, police maintained their opposition to bail and Judge Thomas Everitt refused bail citing his concerns about the risk of McCausland offending if she was released back into the community.
McCausland who is yet to plead to the charge is due back in court on June 5.
