After six games the Manawatu Jets now have their first home win of the National Basketball League Season.
It was an action-packed match against the Hawke's Bay Hawks at Arena Manawatu, with the Jets winning 105-90. The Jets got off to a slow start but were on fire for the second half of the game. At the end of the first quarter the Hawks were leading 21-17, but at half time the score was all tied up at 40 points each.
In the second half of the game the Jets scored one basket after another. The home team scored 64 points to go on to win the game. The Jets' defense was also strong, preventing the Hawks from putting up shots on multiple occasions.
Jets player Brook Ruscoe was the standout of the match, scoring 36 points. His strong shooting was a highlight of the game as he sunk shot after shot, including three pointers, in the second half. Jeremiah Trueman snared 16 rebounds, while Derone Raukawa was also in excellent form.
Paora Winiana was the top scorer for the Hawks with 31 points and Zack Atkinson was strong off the board with 15 rebounds.
