His dream is to become an All Black and, as a flanker, he reckons Richie McCaw is as good a role model as you can get ...
Those are lofty aspirations but, with a player of the tournament trophy on his shelf, Wanganui 13-year-old Jack Kinder knows he's going in the
right direction.
Last week he was part of the Wanganui under-13 team that competed in the Central Zone tournament in Wellington.
Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa-Bush were the opponents, and all three opposing teams rated Kinder, who comes from Fields Track, player of the match. That was impressive enough, but the student from Huntley School in Marton was then named player of the tournament.
"That's some achievement when you think of the playing resources somewhere like Wellington has to call on," said Wanganui Junior Rugby chairwoman Erin Reeve, who travelled with the team.
"I don't recall it happening to a Wanganui player before."
Wanganui came second in the tournament which was won by Wellington.
