Jockey Lisa Allpress is two steps closer to the magic number of 1000 career wins after her weekend efforts.
Allpress, who will become the first woman and only the 25th jockey to get to 1000 New Zealand career wins, rode one mount to victory on Saturday in Palmerston North and then another in the Hawke's Bay yesterday lifting her total to 996.
Allpress has adjusted her schedule to travel to Matamata on Friday to test elite Waikato galloper Ocean Park in an exhibition.
While there, she has picked up two other rides in competition, which means it does appear likely the historic mark will be reached at the unlikely venue of Gore on Friday.
"I'll be at Wellington on Monday, but I'm hoping I get it tided up at Gore," Allpress said.
