The Whanganui District Council's Long Term Plan 2018-2028 is open for consultation and the public is being encouraged to have its say.
Key topics for the next 10 years include paying for the impact of forestry harvesting on district roads, Whanganui Port revitalisation and ensuring the stormwater network is ableto cope with future weather events and a growing population.
The plan also includes the financial strategy and probable rates increases for the next 10 years and other projects, including a kerbside recycling proposal, increasing funding for the Whanganui Regional Museum and establishing four self-service suburban library hubs over the next four years.
Mayor Hamish McDouall says hearing from the public is critical to the success of the Council's plan.
"Firstly we want the input of the community. We want to hear the wisdom and perspectives of the people this plan will affect.
"Secondly, we want people to be informed about the issues we're considering and for them to feel as though they're part of the future of Whanganui, not just bystanders in the process of growing this district."
