Nominations are open for the inaugural Rangitikei Youth Awards.
Established by Rangitikei District Council, the awards have been designed to recognise community contribution by the district's 12 to 24-year-olds.
The theme for this year's awards is Aroha Mai, Aroha Atu - Giving Back is Giving Forward.
RDC chief executive RossMcNeil said there were many example of young people making a significant contribution to the community.
"Whether it is taking action to address a need, motivating and inspiring others, or showing outstanding leadership skills these awards will go some small way to recognising and celebrating their achievements," he said.
Council strategy and community planning manager Denise Servante said the idea came out of council's work around economic development.
"Our policy is about giving every young person in the district experience of growing up in a district they would want for their children."
The council has made $2000 available for cash prizes across a range of categories, although which categories are awarded will be at the discretion of the judging panel comprising mayor Andy Watson, deputy mayor Dean McManaway and representatives from iwi, schools and youth agencies.

Eligibility:
Anyone can nominate a young person for an and award. To be eligible, nominees must:-Be currently living, and have lived, in Rangitikei for the past 12 months or more-Have participated in the activities they have been nominated for within the past 12 months-Have participated in activities they were nominated for outside of their regular study or work commitments-Be aged between 12 and 24 at the beginning of Youth Week on 21 May 2016.Award categories: -Change Maker Award: For young people who have created positive change to foster cultural understanding in their community.-Leadership Award: For young people who have demonstrated leadership in a project or organisation.-Giving Back Award: For young people whose actions address a current need and have had a significant impact on their community.-Youth for Youth Award: For young people whose actions specifically support other young people in areas such as (but not limited to) the arts, culture, environment or sport.-Youth with Disability Award: For young people with a disability who've made a significant contribution to the disability sector and/or their community.-Youth Group: For a group of young people who have made a significant contribution to their community in areas such as (but not limited to) the arts, culture, environment or sport.
