The long weekend has gone all too quickly but hopefully you had time to recharge, make some great memories and reconnect with those near and dear to you. For me it was all of that and a time to contemplate where I am in my life and take stock. Sometimes it is easy to lose yourself in the busyness of work, family and other commitments and, in the process, it is easy to not stay grounded and work/life balance gets out of whack. Keeping the balance is hugely important to me to keep both the home fires burning and the passion alive for the work that I do. Connecting authentically with my family, my friends, my partner and my customers is something that I take pride in and I try to ensure I do it sincerely, to the majority of people I come into contact with. Being authentic takes energy but what you get back energises you in return and makes for a bit more loveliness in your day. A bit of give and take really but for me taking time out to balance the books, excuse the pun, is key to a healthy work, life balance. Happy life, happy librarian!
The Gonville Knitting Group had its final handover of garments on Wednesday. The group has had a phenomenal year, gifting in excess of 1110 items to Birthright Wanganui for local families with which they work. Over and above this they made close to 100 daffodils for the Wanganui Cancer Society to sell and they made 40 pairs of slippers for flood victims. If this wasn't enough they rose to the challenge I put down: A Tea Cosy Exhibition - more than 80 cosies were made and the exhibition was a near sell out. All of these events has helped raise the profile of not just the handcrafts of knitting and crochet but also to the art of charitable knitting and giving in general. I am immensely proud of my group. They are an inspiration to our community. In light of this I have created a logo for them, for it to be their signature of sorts. The image was a blend of young and old to reflect the diversity of the group and the younger generations they would like to instil the art of handcrafts in and the joy of giving. This image was presented to them on Wednesday and will be popping up in places in our community. Keep an eye out for the t-shirts, knitting bags and mugs! Watch this space for some very creative and fun summer projects from The Gonville Knitting Group over the summer months.
