Whanganui district councillor Helen Craig certainly started something when she put the call out for a cobbler to come and set up in the Whanganui.

So much so the issue will feature on Seven Sharp on Thursday night.

Craig said the city was missing a local shoe repairer and that was sending people out of town where they would take other buisness.

It sparked a city wide discussion about "missing retailers" which Wanganui Chronicle editor Mark Dawson wrote about in and editorial which can be read here.

Shop owners came out of the woodwork too, pointing out that although there was no one local, there were arrangements with out of town cobblers to courier shoes from Whanganui for repair.

Seven Sharp came to into the Chronicle newsroom to discuss such issues during the day they spent in town looking at the issue.

The segment will air on TVNZ 1 at 7pm on Thursday (September 6).
