Wanganui Riding for the Disabled (RDA) have raised $100,000 but the road to $750,000 is long and they will continue their journey with a car boot sale.
Everyone is invited to participate in the event which begins at 10am at the Wanganui RDA premises on Purnell Street on Saturday, April28.
RDA have been raising funds to purchase the almost 2ha of land they lease from the NZ Transport Agency and Whanganui District Council.
Chris McLeod, volunteer and licensee salesman at RDA sponsor Ray White said he was not sure how it would go.
"We've never done this before, it would be nice to make $500, it would be nice to make $1000 and it would be nicer still to make $2000," he said.
"We're hoping for a good crowd, anything is a bonus at this stage, but we just don't know how much we will make and we won't know until the day comes."
The event will feature pony rides, a cake stall, a sausage sizzle and goods for sale from car boots, trailers and utes.
Pony rides are $5, a sausage will set you back a gold coin and there will also be pony poo for sale at $2 a bag.
Sellers are asked to arrive at 8am, it will cost them $5 to sell goods from a car boot and $10 for a car with a trailer or a ute.
McCleod said public response for the appeal had been good so far.
"We've raised $100,000 some of that was from a grant and the rest was from donations," he said.
"It's on track, we're talking to a lot of people about the money, it's a lot that we're looking for, but we will get there, we will have it by the time that we need it."
The event is free to attend and will finish at about 2pm.
