It's been a few months since I last wrote a column. In fact it's been a few months since I really did anything outside of work and family life.
I find myself periodically embracing my natural state of being an introvert, almost climbing back into myself, taking the
time to take stock of where I am at and most importantly, nurturing my whole self to restore a sense of balance and sense of purpose in this life.
Sometimes leading a life that demands you to be extroverted in so many ways when you are primarily introverted can leave you at times feeling a little drained to say the least. When I was younger I felt the pressure to be more outgoing, more vocal and more social, but over the years I have come to value my natural state of being an introvert.
In the past I have talked about the ability to wear different hats and masks to cope with the differing roles / situations / feelings we encounter on a daily basis. I have always wondered if those different hats and masks we all have and wear let our authentic selves peek through when we put on a new one. As someone who is striving to lead a holistically authentic life I always endeavour to represent my true self in all facets of my busy life, no matter what role I am in, or hat /mask I am wearing to achieve it. I am not sure that is true in everyone's case.
It's that classic case of people being so many versions of themselves or being someone they are not to get what they want. Any sense of their true self is so diluted down or polluted by need, envy or greed. I walk away from those encounters feeling let down and saddened at their lack authenticity. It also gives me greater resolve to be the best version of myself at all times. I do relish the process of climbing into myself, quietening life down, re-evaluating my aspirations, and then coming back, revitalised and inspired.
