Dallas Shepherd, right, gets to practice his return volley during the 'Love Tennis' weekend at the Basset St courts on Saturday.

Over both Saturday and yesterday afternoon, the Wanganui Tennis Club hosted guests and regular members alike for activities to promote the game.

Spokesman Neville Hopkins said on Saturday they would like to see 80 entries over the weekend, and they were already up to half of that when the first day's activities started.

There were tutorials for children and adult vs kid matches, speed radars for serves and ball machines to practice returns.

Other special games included balloons on racquets, hit the cone, and cricket tennis.

Lolly scrambles and sausage sizzles were also well received.

Attendees received a free Hell pizza voucher, while going into the Tennis Central's draw for flights, accommodation and tickets to January's ASB Classic in Auckland.
