The hard work of New Zealand Masters Games volunteer Tom Green has been rewarded with a lounge bar named after him at the Wanganui Powerco games village. Mr Green, 82, was honoured for his service at seven Masters Games with the special Tom Green lounge bar, that will alsofeature a live jazz act. "I am both embarrassed and extremely honoured by this. "I'm only one of the volunteers," Mr Green said. He has been involved with the Wanganui games since they began in 1989. "I just came in off the street and they gave me a rake. From then on in I've been a member," he said. Mr Green said he enjoyed being a part of this annual event that had everything a sports person could need right on the door step. "There are very few sports events in the world that have everything in such a close radius," he said. However, this was a team effort and the volunteers could not achieve the level of success they had without camaraderie and a family atmosphere. Fellow volunteer Arch Roebuck, 73, said they were just like a big family and were willing to help anyone that needed it. "I have been involved heavily in local sport for many years," Mr Roebuck said. The two men would not be entering into any of the events, but not through a lack of love for sports. "If I entered anything I would automatically get the gold, there's no one in our age group to compete with," Mr Green said. Masters Games manager David Penn said there will be a lot more entertainment for contestants and spectators this year. Entertainment include bands Ittchy Coo Park from Wellington and Mermaids, with band member Jo Cotton from True Bliss, as well as many more. "There will also be the PlaceMakers food court that will have five buffet meals. "Also the Lifestyle expo that will have a range of different exhibitions."
