A combined kids' day and open day at the Castlecliff Community Centre on Saturday included games and entertainment, enjoyed by (from left) Kealyn Marshall-Nyman (in barrow), Troy Bays, Maria Monet (obscured) and Sport and Recreation Wanganui's Te Ora Nyman.
The centre has been a joint effort between the Castlecliff Community Charitable
Trust and the Port Bowen Trust, as well as the Wanganui District Council and Whanganui District Health Board.
Mike Boniface, one of the trustees of the Castlecliff Community Charitable Trust, said about 400 attended the event, which included Top Town games, lolly scrambles and tractor rides.
The facility will include a medical and police presence, and after-school care.
Mr Boniface said the vision had always been to have a "one-stop shop" and that hadn't changed.
"We want the community to have access to the services and needs they have."
It was hoped to have the centre open soon, he said.
