What a great technical run we had on Sunday, huge thanks to Phil Portland, our stage manager, for overseeing such an efficient rehearsal - all the technical aspects of the show, scene changes, lighting and sound cues, went very smoothly indeed so all bodes well for a slick and polished opening night and subsequent run.
Many thanks to Kerry Mountstephen and Beverley Pearce for sorting the (numerous) costume changes and also to Reuben Janes and Caius Wrigglesworth for the onstage set changes. Thanks too to Mitchell Taylor for keeping an eagle eye on the continuity backstage and also Konrad Check-Shaw for his invaluable help. Out front, Sherman Page has his eyes on the ball with lighting, and newcomer Jack Southee is doing a brilliant job on sound.
Though there's still a little more work to do with the onstage action (integrating a few remaining props and costume changes) we are well on track to presenting a thoroughly entertaining (and surprising) production.
Huge thanks must go to the cast who have all worked so hard over the last eight weeks. This is no mean feat, reducing a play written for 11 actors to a cast of four. A daunting number of lines to learn and some super-fast character changes.
For those wishing to book seats in advance (always advisable), tickets for The Rivals are on sale at the Royal Wanganui Opera House for $25 (concessions available) - visit in person or telephone 06 349 0511. This production plays at Repertory from November 21 to 29, evenings at 7.30pm (no performance on Monday, November 24) with a Sunday matinee at 2pm.
