Marton's Civic Square is in for a makeover, with several groups collaborating on the project which is part of the Marton Town Centre Plan (MTCP).
The Rangitikei District Council has set up steering groups for Marton, Hunterville and Taihape, to create town centre plans. It follows the successful creation ofthe Bulls Town Centre Plan last year, which proved successful.
Marton's first project, the makeover of the square on the corner of Lower High St and Wellington Rd will be done on the first weekend of November.
The plan was created by Rangitikei College students and Creative Communities' David Engwicht. He has over 25 years' experience in town centre design and masterminded the Bulls town centre plan and has been working with other Rangitikei towns.
At this week's MTCP meeting, acting chair Gillian Bowler said it was important for as many groups and people as possible to be part of the plan.
Meanwhile town's three high schools are competing for cash prize to design a makeover of the public toilets across the road.
Builders, engineers or anyone else willing to help on November 1 and 2 are encouraged to contact Andrew Morriss on 027 289 3799 or Randall McIlwaine on 027 423 503.
