Two Wanganui families will celebrate this summer in style, rain or shine.
They have won the Wanganui Chronicle and Rivercity Gas summer promotion's outdoor barbecue packages of Gasmate appliances, each worth $2000.
The promotion's competition attracted over 500 entries from new and existing Wanganui Chronicle subscribers.
Chez Peeti won the new subscriber prize
and Karen Wrigglesworth the existing subscriber prize.
Tengaahere Peeti, who accepted the prize on behalf of her sister, said it was the first time the family had won anything, and it did not have a barbecue.
"We are a very large family and Chez will be getting a lot of use from this. She decided to subscribe to the Chronicle to keep up with local news and was shocked to find she won this fantastic prize," Ms Peeti said.
Mrs Wrigglesworth was overwhelmed that just filling in a coupon won her and her family "such an awesome package."
"We have subscribed to the Chronicle for more than 10 years.
"We don't have a television and Allan always reads the Chronicle first thing in the morning to keep up with local, national and international news. He doesn't know we have won this ? it'll be an early surprise Christmas present for him," Mrs Wrigglesworth said.
Graham Hardie, owner-operator of Rivercity Gas, who has taken part in the Wanganui Chronicle's summer promotion for three years, said he was delighted to be associated with such a community focussed newspaper.
"I'm very community focussed and I enjoy reading the Chronicle for its coverage of local and international news," Mr Hardie said.
