Waverley's Primary School worked hard to earn $4000 from a gala last month - only to be looking at paying out more than half of it to repair vandalism inflicted at the weekend.
During Saturday night many pieces of cladding on the school hall were kicked in and graffiti was scrawled on the hall and nearby buildings with red shoe polish and marker pens.
Principal Shaun Campbell said it was not the first time the school had been vandalised but it was the worst. Repairs were likely to cost about $2500.
"I think the kids are pretty disappointed and disgusted," he said.
They had been doing their own detective work, with many knocks on his door yesterday, and one child bringing in a marker pen found in the playground.
Waverley police are investigating. Anyone who can help is asked to contact police or the school on 346 5087.
