A new retail development due to begin in early 2013 is an "exciting and advantageous business venture" for the town, says Bulls Community Board chairman Hew Dalrymple.
"This is a go-ahead little town, it really is, and we need this new development."
Even though the town's population was not big, traffic through the combined section of State Highway 3 and State Highway 1 (Bridge St) was 8000 vehicles per day, he said.
The new development would mean the construction of a supermarket, five retail shops, fuel and food outlets.
Mr Dalrymple said Foodstuffs, who own the large piece of land, were originally going to build a New World but the new management team were a bit more risk averse now.
"They're talking about building a large Four Square. But people in Bulls don't want a Four Square they want a New World ... we want a grown-up supermarket, not an overgrown dairy."
More than 300 people have filled in a community board survey clearly stating their preference for a New World.
The large piece of land opposite MacDonald in Bridge St would be a fantastic site, he said.
Mr Dalrymple said the board would be meeting with the Foodstuffs team in the New Year.
"I really hope they realise we have the dynamics already in our town with the combined State Highway 3 and 1 with people pulling in all the time."
Young mum Annabel Whisker said she got on the site development bandwagon because a decent supermarket in Bulls would be a dream come true for every mum with a family in Bulls and outlying areas, including the Ohakea base. There were 300 families involved with the kindergarten and 200 at the playcentre.
"We all have to leave town to go shopping. The Four Square is all very well but really it's only for a top-up."
Most of the mums in Bulls drive to Palmerston North or Feilding , she said.
"Sometimes Marton maybe for a top up. We so need a decent sized supermarket here. It would be amazing it really would."
Mrs Whisker said everyone was hoping that, at long last, a proper supermarket would be built in Bulls.
