Potter 'out of danger'

Ross Mitchell-Anyon is out of danger, says his wife, Bobbi Mitchell-Anyon.

She said her husband has been moved from ICU to the neurological ward at Wellington Hospital and had been opening his eyes, trying to wake up.

On April 21, Mr Mitchell-Anyon fell 12m while working on a sprinkler system in one of his buildings in Taupo Quay.

The renowned potter and former Wanganui District councillor was flown to Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit on April 22, unconscious and needing a ventilator.

Mrs Mitchell-Anyon said the family was overjoyed he was breathing on his own.

"It's going to be a long journey but he's on the mend.

"He's out of danger. He keeps trying to wake up, opening his eyes, but it's extremely tiring and he goes back to sleep."

She said he was going in and out of consciousness.

"It's a very exhausting time and he needs all his rest, which is so unlike him."

She said moving to the neurological ward will put him among the specialist team required.

"He's made huge progress, though. His chest is healing beautifully." Mr Mitchell-Anyon had serious chest injuries from the fall.

She said he can probably hear her voice now.

"I'm sure he wants to say, 'For God's sake shut up, woman'."

Mrs Mitchell-Anyon said the family remained appreciative of the Wanganui community's support.
