"He has a particular passion for repairing old cars," his defence lawyer, Harete Hipango, said on Monday.
"One could also suggest he had a passion for cannabis use."
Frith is on to his third conviction for cultivating cannabis - he pleaded guiltyto the charge and was sentenced this week in the Whanganui District Court.
Police searched his central Wanganui home on November 12. He had 424g of dried cannabis as well as about 12 plants in growing rooms.
