Wanganui people from different cultures, faiths and religions will come together on Wednesday to mark the International Day of Peace. A prayer breakfast is being held in The Quiet Room at the Quaker Settlement, 76 Virginia Rd. The Prayer Breakfast is being sponsored by Peace through Unity, Wanganui United Nations Association andWhanganui Quakers. Prayers and invocations start at 8am on Wednesday and will be followed by breakfast. Then, at noon, people are to gather at the Peace Sculpture, in Queen's Park, for an international peace vigil. Peace through Unity co-founder Gita Brooke said members from the Wanganui community were invited to the prayer breakfast. People would "join their thoughts and prayers with peoples of every other nation in a united focus on promoting a just and peaceful world based on right relations between all peoples," Mrs Brooke said. "Last year people chose to express their thoughts and hopes for the world through poems, prayers, invocations and songs from different cultures and in different languages. We warmly invite people to do the same this year. "All United Nations member states will also be mentioned, asking that peace may prevail in every one of them."
