The children at Gonville Kindergarten don't know it yet, but they will have a new pirate ship playhouse later this year, thanks to a group of carpentry students at Whanganui City College.
The six Year 12 and 13 students will spend the next few months making the the wooden, 4mby 1.5m playhouse as part of the annual nationwide BCITO Build-Ability Challenge.
Student Bronson Barron took part in the challenge last year, which was a wooden fire truck for the Funhouse Learning Centre.
"We didn't finish it in time for the challenge, but the judges said that if we had finished in time we would have had a good chance of winning."
Bronson said the group was aiming to win the competition this year.
They've drawn up plans - with the help of a graphic design student - and are now building a model of the playhouse.
"We have to learn how we're going to build it," Bronson said.
