New online event calendar

Visit Whanganui, the district council's tourism agency, has set up a new event calendar able to feature all local events for the community, business sector and tourism market.

The new site and Facebook page is called "Whanganui What's On" and can be accessed either through the Whanganuinz.com website, the Whanganuiandpartners.nz website or directly at Whanganuiwhatson.nz.

Claire Wickham, chair of Visit Whanganui, said the site "looks fabulous" with colour and images showing a monthly view or a calendar and is mobile-friendly.

Ms Wickham said the Whanganui people can list their events free and check in advance what other events are on.

And anyone can go online and list an event, but it will be checked before going "live".

Linked to a Facebook page of the same name, followers are fed back to the website for more details.

"A key goal of the Visit Whanganui board's strategy is to grow visitor numbers to our region.

"This new site is a great resource for our local community to raise awareness of all the great things going on in Whanganui so they can share it with their friends and family.

"It's also a fantastic tool for people visiting Whanganui, to help them plan their stay and hopefully stay longer."
