It's just two and a half weeks before the annual Pauls Road Live music festival rolls around again, this time with eight bands packing the programme.
Gates open at midday on Sunday, March 8, at, Dean and Marian Butler's property at 42 Pauls Rd for an afternoon of top-notch local entertainment.
"We've
got the Ballydesmonds this year," says organiser Fred Loveridge, "Something a bit different, some Celtic music."
The complete lineup is: Gatshack Project (acoustic rock); The Blues Buffet (hard-driving blues); Clazzmatic Boogie Orchestra (funk, soul, rhythm and blues); Richard Littlejohn and Friends (original "ulternative" rock); Heavy Water (classic rock); Status Update (Status Quo tribute), The Ballydesmonds (Celtic rock) and The David Rogerson Blues Band (blues).
People are advised to bring their own seating, shade and refreshments, although Fred says they'll supply some shade. He says people have brought their own shelters before and others have even lugged in heavy bases for outdoor umbrellas.
"The musicians don't get paid," says Fred, "so the money goes to charity."
This year the proceeds will be divided between Wanganui RSA's World War 1 centenary commemorations and Starlit HOPE Trust.
Starlit HOPE was started by 12-year-old Gabby Devine who has bone cancer. The charity is her way to help other kids in similar situations. Starlit HOPE does random acts of kindness for the children, parents and staff at the oncology ward at Starship Hospital and New Plymouth.
"The festival is a great opportunity for Wanganui bands and musicians to play in an outdoor setting," says Fred. ¦Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children and are available from Gatshack Music, 71 Ridgway St.
