BIRD BRAIN: Two weeks of avian themed activities have been planned by the Whanganui Regional Museum.
The Whanganui Regional Museum's holiday programme has taken off with a fortnight of bird-related activities planned.
The programme runs on weekdays until April 19 and Whanganui Regional Museum programmes co-ordinator Riah King-Wall said about 40 children across two sessions turned up to yesterday's opening day.
The children's first activity wasto make wearable wings out of fabric. Cheyenne and Jordana Vuleta were part of yesterday morning's wing-making session and said they enjoyed the craft aspect to the holiday activities.
"I'm making little bird feathers down here, so when it opens it flies," Cheyenne said.
Ms King-Wall there were activities planned for each day including Anzac Day.
This Friday will be the big egg drop, where children will be tasked with building contraptions designed to protect an egg from cracking when it is dropped from the museum roof.
"That'll be good fun," Ms King-Wall said.
"Everything these holidays had a bird theme, something to do with birds. We've got plenty of birds in the collection so it's nice to refer to them."
