UNITED NATIONS: Compassion and service were themes for people visiting Tauranga Ika Marae.
It was an interesting and fruitful Saturday for a group organised by the Multicultural Council of Rangitikei/Whanganui, president Vijeshwar Prasad said.
The group of around 20 was hosted at Tauranga Ika Marae, at Nukumaru. It included people from Ireland, England, Fiji, the Cook Islands, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri
Lanka.
It's the third marae visit the council has organised for residents and new migrants who want to get some insight into Maori culture.
The group experienced a powhiri (welcome ceremony), shared lunch, talks, prayers and a visit to nearby Tutahi Church, and were given a booklet about the marae and its history.
Their speakers included Dr Moazzam Zaida, Mr Prasad, Te Aroha Hakaraia, Gavin Brooks, Te Pahunga Davis and Sande Ramage.
