While some of the outdoor events were cancelled because of the rain, the petanque players proved they are a hardier bunch.
At the Masters Games village yesterday play continued on the petanque court and cousins Bernice Sturmey-MacNab and Danielle Morehu were in the thick of the action.
They weren't sure
if they would come away with "a medal or pneumonia" but they gave it their best shot.
Sturmey-MacNab, from Wanganui, said she had been a Games participant since she qualified as a 30-year-old "but I'm not telling how long ago that was".
Morehu is ex-Wanganui but now lives in Auckland. She said this year they were sticking to the fun events.
